Based only on my personal experience, the people who most want to carry guns are the same people who I would prefer not have them. Just an observation.

Most cops I know, or knew, treated firearms as a tool; they weren't in love with them (i.e., they would complain about having to go to the firing range).

Most police I have ever known are just fine folks. A few are kindof scarey folks who like the authority and uniform and so forth.

I generally agree with the possible exception of my home town, where the local police included a bunch of thugs. The police chief and his buddies were eventually arrested by the state police (this was many years ago).

Nope, just your basic criminals with badges. I think the finally got busted for embezzling money from the town. They weren't very bright.

Corruption happens....

Lafayette is a sleepy midwestern town but in the thirty some years I have lived here we have had a corrupt Judge who actually was buying stolen goods and had folks who would go steal specific things for him....(in jail or at least did some seriuos time)....

Recently it came out that an employee at one of the local hospitals managed to make off with 2 or 3 million over a period of a decade or so.

It is incredible to me how many embezzelers get off with light sentences and folks who are caught in a minor crime often get a really harsh sentence.

Heck we had a local fellow who drove a delivery van for, meals on wheels, IIRC, who ran over some ducks at the local city park (they are like feathered rats there anyway). The local judge gave him a pretty stiff sentence including IIRC some jail time....seemed to me like losing his job would have been enough punishment.

Sorry...thread drift alert!:P

I was not speaking against gun ownership.
I was decrying the way pampered athelets disobey laws that would land any of the rest of us in jail for a very long time, and yet they typically get away with it.

Point taken. no offence taken.

Holy crap. Small fine should have been the max on that one. In Oakland, damned geese are out of control. Small lake in the town, Merritt lake, is infested with them.

Stoneseller 01-10-2010 06:51 PM

He did a dumb thing bringing the guns into the locker room.

He removed all doubt of the fact he is clueless when he did the hand-gunning routine on court.

Bye Bye multimillion dollar contracts. What an idiot.

Back to the original question....
What is the casue and which is the effect?

Do guns make ( some) people stupid?
or
Do (some) stupid) people "play" with guns?
or
Should athletes be held to the same rules as everybody else?

johnjzjz 01-10-2010 08:54 PM

1. I don't believe so.

2. Absolutely.

3. Yes, but there is too much money involved to expect that to happen.
