2 role models for the right on Hate, er Haiti

Rush Limbaugh said on his radio show Wednesday that he wouldn't trust that money donated to Haiti through the White House Web site would actually go to the relief efforts. He said Americans don't need to contribute to earthquake relief because they already donate to Haiti through their income taxes.

* * *

Evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson says Haiti has been "cursed" because of what he called a "pact with the devil" in its history.

* * *

It is telling that these spokes-idiots have no sense of compassion for others during a tragedy. Evidently they know something about the intellect and desires of their audience.

They are role models of what cruel parents do to their children.

johnjzjz 01-15-2010 08:46 AM

the US alone has sent 2 billion thats with a B, - to them and NO one knows what happened to the money and the country is worse off for it

that's not compassion to further the genocide

and religion in men like him, all through history have said similar, its part of the teachings and is not a tablet written in stone, - YOU WONT GET THAT -- jz

See Salt of the Earth thread.

JollyRoger 01-15-2010 09:38 AM

One of the nice things about all of this is that Limbaugh and Robertson are reminding the electorate of just why they can't stand the Republicans anymore.

link 01-15-2010 09:40 AM

Their audience actually likes this kind of thing. That’s why L & R have jobs....

JollyRoger 01-15-2010 09:45 AM

Hey, just look at Billybob on the other threads, this event is motivating these people to spout their core beliefs of what is essentially a brutal worldview absent any sort of humanity. "Christianity" and "conservatism" are facades these people wear to hide what they are really about: far right wing psuedo-master race cyrpto-fascism.

They preached to the choir. The slobs who make up their constituency wouldn't forsake a penny of their Marlboro/lotto card money just to help out a bunch of colored folks.

BobK 01-15-2010 09:46 AM

just so you know, Robertson's group put in a ton of work in NOLA after Katrina. I worked with some of those folk and they all busted their butts to make things better. Did some really dirty, nasty jobs along with some real professional construction work. I don't always agree with what some of the TV preachers say, but I sure respect the real work I have seen some of their people do. I have no idea if they are shipping out to Haiti. I will wait and see.

That's a rational assessment. But why do these people have broad appeal?

tbomachines 01-15-2010 09:48 AM

Why are there so many threads on this??

If they believe in helping others, then how have their statements come to be?

They don't. They have the appeal of the noisiest among us.

I think it's about finding an excuse to be selfish and let others rot. Race is as good an excuse as any for bigots.

Yes...one is enough for me :)

Just saying...I feel like Rush has been coming up on about 75% of the threads in OD the past 2 weeks (when I have had the time to post on here in between semesters), this topic with Robertson has been brought up in at least two others.

Interesting observation. It points out the duplicity of the right to espouse selfishness in the name of a political and religious agendas. And yet, it has appeal

I don't read that many threads here. The evidence suggests that many are not happy with the statements of these people.

Thanks for the links. unfortunately as easily as you would dismiss a Fox news report as a lie if it suits your purpose, I don't place a lot of faith in any news reports from Cuba.

Too bad the facts disagree with you. Rush gives far more to charity than his liberal counterparts. And as already mentioned here, the generosity of both time and money from Robertson's ministries, is a widely known fact.

More to the point, it's not just these two - study after study, repeatedly shows conservatives give far more to charity than liberals. When it actually comes to giving, liberals have big mouths, and tight wallets.

That's not to say liberals don't wish to help out those in need - on the contrary. They just prefer to do so with other people's money.

AdvisorGuy 01-15-2010 04:17 PM

So because Robertson's charities do good, he gets a pass on his comments.. Passing judgment and blame is ok so long as you throw some cash at it.. Ahhh yet another case of religion uniting us all with peace and love..

Riush & Pat deserve everything they preach.. Chalk them up to god's Plan..

Mr Robertson. He claims they are deserving what they get because they are being punished by God for their treason. No compassion necessary.

According to a 2 June 1999, article in The Virginian-Pilot,[17] Robertson had extensive business dealings with Liberian president Charles Taylor. According to the article, Taylor gave Robertson the rights to mine for diamonds in Liberia's mineral-rich countryside. According to two Operation Blessing pilots who reported this incident to the state of Virginia for investigation in 1994, Robertson used his Operation Blessing planes to haul diamond-mining equipment to Robertson's mines in Liberia, despite the fact that Robertson was telling his 700 Club viewers that the planes were sending relief supplies to the victims of the genocide in Rwanda. In response to Taylor's alleged crimes against humanity the United States Congress passed a bill In November 2003 that offered two million dollars for his capture. Robertson accused President Bush of "undermining a Christian, Baptist president to bring in Muslim rebels to take over the country." At the time Taylor was harboring Al Qaeda operatives who were funding their operations through the illegal diamond trade.[18]

don't kid a kidder, ok? :D
