(a) A variety of sources were consulted for this analysis, including the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia. In the rankings, I did not include prior private-sector experience for the following positions: Postmaster General; Navy; War; Health, Education & Welfare; Veterans Affairs; and Homeland Security. In the rankings, private-sector experience at a law firm counts for a 33% score, which I think is very generous. My wife strongly suggested raising this to 50%, but I refused.
Ah, that one says '20%' not '8%', it doesn't seem to be the same chart you originally posted.

Your numbers seem to be moving my way. Will the next chart show 40? I can hardly wait.

Aklim...

I agree with you about Perot being at the mercy of politics if he were the Sec. of Commerce. My thoughts here was that at least he was someone who might be listened to on the subject.

But in the end the politics of the situation would have won out no matter how right he might have been.

It seems that Eisenhower's people had the highest level of private business experience.

Anyone here besides me remember the Recession that hit the US in 1957 and 1958? It was brutal.

You would think that with all that private business experience on his side Eisenhower could have prevented this.

I doubt he will be listened to over the politics. I doubt anyone would be. After all, we are talking about a politician getting re-elected. The best they will do is throw him a bone and give him such a watered down version of what he suggests, he'd either quit or commit suicide. I always would have figured that he would be like Warren Buffet or Bill Gates and be smart enough NOT to bother.

Which brings us to the question, doesn't it? While it might be nice if Obama stocked his cabal with the best business minds the world has to offer, what would the point be if he doesn't listen to them over the political noise? We have seen it in other administrations so what makes this one so different?
