Military Exempted From Spending Freeze Proposal

Budget Seeks Increase for Military Families and Related Issues

The Obama budget will ask Congress to add $14 million for Coast Guard housing, an item of particular interest to Mrs. Obama, according to her staff; $87 million more for a total of $1.3 billion for child care at U.S. and overseas bases; an additional $37 million for a total of $1.9 billion for a variety of counseling services for families torn by repeated deployments, and another $12 million, bringing to $84 million, the total for tuition assistance and internship programs for military spouses.

I could say something like Ron Paul... But I think the flames might fry my processor in my poor little computer.

I am ex Air Force by the way.... Been there, done that.... I spent 6 out of my 10 years flying in and out of that hole in the earth (over there).

I always think the Coast Guard is a good investment. For years it was starved as DOT's basterd child.

Dollar for dollar you get the most bang for your buck from the Coast Guard.

I have worked with the Coast Guard during oil spills on water.

I have nothing but praise for them. They really know what they are doing and after an accident there is no one you want around more.

Yep, as a mariner IMHO its the best investment you can make. The Coast Guard will come out and save your a** when you need them.

When your drifting 200 miles from shore in 20ft seas with nothing but a PFD keeping you afloat, on a cold stormy night; they are angles.

The Coast Guard Academy is also the hardest school to get into in this country. They won't even look at you if your GPA isn't at least 4.0, they don't care who your daddy is either. They only want the best of the best.

Here's 131 Pages of What's Being Cut in the 2011 Budget

Not good news if you're a fan of the C-17 Transport; Coal company tax breaks, anthrax vaccines . . .
