The last computer I owned with a modem was my old G4 powerbook (2004 or 2005?). My 2 year old MacBook Pro has no modem.
My macbook is wireless, cable modem before that, but it has an ethernet socket, but no phone jack. My old compaq laptop has a dial up modem.

Same as mine, I just carry a wireless router so I almost never have to plug it in anyway. I'm guessing that the CD/DVD drive will be the next thing to disappear from the MBP.

True, but it uses a wireless drive. The MBA was a little ahead of it's time and too expensive for it's capability.

I suspect that bootable USB drives will replace CD/DVDs for system software installs and everything else will be a download.
