When Was the Last Time You Cleaned Your

Fridge?

Most Americans clean their fridges only once or twice a year.

Manufacturers aiming to create a cleaner, tidier fridge are likely facing an uphill battle: Currently, most Americans don't clean their fridges until something triggers them to act, such as a spill or a pungent odor. They also don't devote much effort to the task, even when they come home with bags of new groceries.

In Whirlpool's 2005 refrigerator habits survey of 2,571 consumers, 33% said they don't spend any time cleaning the refrigerator before grocery shopping. In order to make room for items just purchased, 27% reported shoving everything in and not worrying about organization.

For the one in the house - Every other Friday, by the maid who takes most of the "leftovers" home with her.

For the one here in the office - Whenever it needs it. Which is not too often.

For the two in the hangar -
One is nothing but sodas, fish bait and aircraft parts requiring cold installations, so not too often.

The other is nothing but beer and other such beverages, so even less often.

The one in the house gets done every 2-3 weeks. The ones at the various shops damn near never.

We are busy folk, always out. So not much food in the fridge anyway.

Take out a couple of items and voila! Easy cleaning...

Every other week. I have a house keeper and she is amazing. At sixty she does more in five hours than the young ones did in twenty.

Generally people clean their fridges as often as they clean their bathrooms. So if you are checking out a future mate, check the condition of those two places first!

I usually clean my fridge when I see something green and it isn't salad.

Usually people also clean their house when they are expecting a person over with whom they think sex has a chance of happening. I know I did.

I think there's stuff in my parent's fridge that's older than me....

September 2008, when I moved from my old apartment to my current one. The time before that was in July 2006 when I moved out of my apartment prior to going to Iraq.

My fridge isn't actually that bad though. Stuff that's bad or about to go bad gets thrown out as needed. I do have a nearly empty jar of spiced pickled green beans that dates to some time in 2007 in the back. I haven't opened it lately, but I'm guessing they're still edible.

I did make an effort to clean out the freezer, which I finally finished. Cabinet refreshing is also in progress. I can go shopping for canned goods once again after I finish one last can of tuna.

As for the bathroom thing, I disagree. Mine gets cleaned a whole lot more often that the refrigerator.
