So... I bought an Excursion..

Some of you have been following my thread in the car section of me wanting an excursion. So a week and a day ago now, I finally took delivery of a 2000 ford Excursion. It has a 7.3L Diesel in it. has about 189,000 Miles on it. It's an XLT version with the leather seats.
I have about 44 Pictures... I just need to put them over on my server and I'll provide a link if there's any interest in Viewing. A

Very nice! 2000 is a good year for Powerstroke engines.

If you haven't already discovered it, a really good website for Ford diesels is Oilburners.net

I'd be interested in seeing them. Is this thing better/more reliable than a Suburban? If so why?

I have owned a Suburban. There is no way to compare the two since it is an apples to oranges comparison. First off, you are talking about a half ton vs a 3/4 ton and up. Small difference between the F250 and the F350. IIRC, some F350s were just a different badge stuck on. Also, there is the diesel engine and the 4R100 trans that is way different from the 5.3 or 6.0 Vortec and the 4L60E trans

Nice, you've got one of the very few SUVs I'd buy.

The 7.3 Power Stroke Excursion is up there with the 617 G wagons, and Diesel LandCruisers. The only thing that makes it better is that it was actually sold to the American public in enough numbers that I may actually get to own one some day.

SRW F350's just have taller blocks on the rear axles than the 250's.

DRW F350's have a whole different suspension.

Unfortunately so. The PMRs mean all I can go to is 400HP. If I want to get more serious in racing, I will have to replace the block.

Supposedly you can fit a DRW into the Excursion.

I'd say it's a bit better then a suburban, you can get these newer models (up til 05) with Diesels. With the subs they stopped making the Diesels in I think 97, so you get unchipped close to 20MPG. I am averaging about 19MPG now. the Subs also tend to get an annoying Whistle in the rear end after 180K. the sub can be a little unweildy to drive, it's a long vehicle, the Excursion handles like a car, the front end is a little squirrely Due to it's stiff suspension but other then that it's a decent ride, but I may have to sell this one to save our house from forclosure... so it may be a easy come easy go sort of thing...

If the rods are the weak link, why do you have to replace the block?

Maybe I said it badly. I should have said "replace the motor". That is, unless I get a window in the block from a broken rod first.
