I have an "ID that car" request for you guys ...

... Gilly's post about his Austin Healey in a music video made me think about music videos with interesting cars in them, and I thought about this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=i9LOFXwPwC4&feature=related
It's my favorite song in the world, and I've wondered for some time what that car at the beginning is. It's kind morphed but there's a clear side shot of it at about 40 seconds. I'm not particularly good at "name that car" unless it's a Mercedes. What is it?

Hard to say what year in the Vid but they made them in France from 1955 to about 1974, and were imported into the USA until 1973 when it stopped because of the French feuding with the US DOT about bumper heights and headlights.

By far among some of the smoothest riding autos of their time and some of them like the DS21 Pallas models were of ambassadorial and diplomatic rank.

These cars would self-level even after the engine was turned off. I guess they were running off of pressure from an accumulator.

Sweet ... I like that the one is sitting in front of a Smart car. Kind of a random juxtaposition. And that JAG ... oh ... I love older older Jags. My dad had an XK150 that I never got to meet because he sold it when my parents decided to start a family.

I think the video I posted was filmed in the UK, or that would make sense because that's where the band is from, and when it was made they'd never even released anything in the U.S. I'm guessing Citroens are more common over there. Or maybe the director (or band) picked it because it has artsy appeal.

The Car in the video is a 1969-72 Citroen DS21 standard version, not the Pallas, now that I can see the interior and the side.

If you want a white one, I may be selling one in six months, when I finish it

Here's more than you wanted to know:

There are kazillions of available parts and millions of rebuilders in the US Canada and South America, naturally Europe.

Parts are much more expensive in most cases for a MB fintail than for a DS. Of course there are the usual d!(kheads that try to screw everyone on Ebay etc, but there are lists for Citroens just like this one.

The only cars that get to be expensive are the real old ones (1919-1939) but the post war cars are less so than Mercedes. You can get a totally rebuilt1950 Citroen Traction for maybe 20K though, as always California and New York independent dealers try to tell you its so rare and should go for 75 grand.

They made 1 million Tractions, 3 millions DS and 7 mmillion 2CVs so they are not rare or even scarce.

The Citroen SM that uses the Maserati engine has some expenses associated with it, but there are guys who just replaced the SM engine with a DS21 engine + drive train and it bolts pretty much in without problemos, tho a little slower.

The rarest car was a handbuilt Traction convertible built for Mrs Michelin when the family owned Citroen. That car was sold for over 100 grand, so it's not like it's Hitler's private Mercedes.

If you want to see a bunch of tire mechanics scatter, just pull into a tire store with a French car. Those wheels do not have a center hole. Tires have to be mounted and dismounted by hand.
