Murphy bed?
Have any of you wood workers ever built a Murphy bed? I'm getting ready to build one for my guest bedroom/office and have been looking at kits for the hardware. Some use pistons like car makers use for hatchbacks, etc. Some employ springs. I wondered if any of you had experience with these and if so, which one you used.

Had one in a large hotel room in Nashville one time. Think it used springs. That is what I would use. Suspect they would be much more reliable than pneumatic struts. Think about failing struts on most cars.

I've never really had any of those fail, but I know many people have. It appears that the kits with springs cost about $200 more that the ones with the struts.

Get an inflatable mattress, throw it on the floor and be done with it.

I like secret compartments, hidden rooms, trap doors, and beds that fold down out of the wall. Inflatable beds just don't have the same elan . . .

Plus it's a lot easier to hide a body in a Murphy bed than an inflatable mattress.

She's installing her new imaging workstation today. I suspect that she has her hands full with that.
Plus, I think she's trying to exercise some restraint as far as IRGO (Internet-Related-Goofing-Off) is concerned.

That's when I turned it around and found out it was a Murphy bed on the other side! It used an 80 lb counterweight and the thing was well-balanced so not difficult to move up or down. It's kind of bunched up against a wall in a spare room now that's full of books and stuff, so I can't readily take photos, but I think you get the idea.

maybe something like a garage door spring. place it so it pulls the bed toward the floor as well as assisting in raising the bed.
