SR71
I just read this article.
http://gizmodo.com/5511236/the-thrill-of-flying-the-sr+71-blackbird WOW, not only is the writer an incredible pilot, but i love the way he wrote the stories. I've felt a few time driving my Mercedes when i thought it was taking care of me not just me driving it. I love those feelings. This was a really good read!

If you have never actually seen an SR71 in person you owe it to yourself to do so. I saw one on display back in the 90's at an AFB in San Antonio and more recently visiting the Udvar-Hazy museum in Washington. It is a spectacular thing to look at. Engineering taken to such an extreme it has become a piece of art. It is beautiful to look at, even people who aren't into planes will just stand there with a slack jaw. Skunk Works is another great book that is more about the F117 but has a lot of info on the SR71. The SR71 will not be equaled until spaceflight is considered routine. It was and is still so far ahead of anything else it might as well be alien technology. RT

They say the hardest task was in-flight refueling, and most pilots washed out doing that.

The SR71 was so far ahead of its time.
"On her final flight, the Blackbird, destined for the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum , sped from Los Angeles to Washington in 64 minutes, averaging 2,145 mph and setting four speed records."

I hope in our lifetime that more of it's missions will be declassified (They are probably some of the best kept secrets from the Cold War)
