I have a fairly steep hillside to mow. Would a zero turn machine work on there or would i be better off with an small old Kubota 4wd diesel with a belly mower be better?

Well my friends parents had like 2 of the same newer version ones and they died, Maybe the older ones are better quality?

Yeah but you do normally get what you pay for, just depends on how much this guy is willing to spend.

They also make a 4-wheel steering version of my tractor which will more or less turn on a dime as well. It's the X304 -

Good luck! Just serviced my JD this afternoon, getting it ready for the summer.

Just curious - what do those of you who have JD's/lawn tractors use for oil? Synthetic?

If you can find one that you can afford, in the condition you want - buy it if it checks out.

Thank you sir. Local dealer gave me a bottle of JD 30-weight oil, which I am dubious about, especially given the temp variations we deal with here.

I have an older Dixon and it's a piece of *****. The drive clutch cone assembly is way overly-complicated and prone to failure. The do have good rebuild literature, however.

Love my Dixon, but my yard's not real big. My buddy just bought a Ferris (with the diesel) and swears by it. He's got lots of rural land to mow, and says he has yet to bog it down running along at 12-15mph or so.

I have two buddies with landscaping businesses. ExMark, Skag, Ferris, Dixie Chopper, Walker, etc. have all been owned at one time or another and all have been good but the newest, latest, greatest around here is Great Dane. They have a model you stand on called a Super Surfer that is literally taking over the commercial market. Everyone is running them. I've driven them, very neat concept and fast too. http://www.greatdanemowers.com/products/supersurfer.html RT

Yes, you all are correct. I meant MTD and Stihl is still made by Stihl in Germany.

My Skag Wildcat does a great job on my lot. I have quite a few inclines, and some rather bumpy area. The low center of gravity does inclines well, and the suspension seat mellows out the bumps very well. It leaves a very nice even cut. I'm quite happy with it.
