I really don't understand bumper stickers; what's the point of trying to impress strangers with your wit, political views, etc.?

Have you ever heard anyone say that they voted for a candidate because they saw his bumper sticker on a rusty 92 civic (there's someone who's advice I really need to take)?

I also don't understand the "clever" ones; it's not like the driver wrote the clever phrase, he just saw it someplace and decided to spread someone else's wit by sticking it to the back of a F150 (right next to his truck-nuts). Here's another guy I want to hang out with at the local country and western bar.

To clarify, the bumper sticker reads "Work is for people to dumb to fish." The [sic] is mine.

I'm not real keen on bumper stickers either; I have a Chamonix edelweiss decal, a Garmisch-Partenkirchen promotional decal from the tourism office there, and a "bitte ein Bit" transfer (Bitburger beer ad) on my Jetta. No witticisms though.

I am amazed at people who affix stickers to metal body panels. RUST!

I once had some body work done at a small shop where the owner told me he could only do the repair if the weather was right.

By that he meant if it was raining. On nice days he took off and fished all day.

A friend of mine was retiring and said he planned to open a 'beer and bait' shop.

That way if business was slow he could always get drunk and go fishing.

I saw a bumper sticker here in town that read. 'For Such a Small Town, there sure is a lot of *********S in it.

Pretty much look at them as a great way to know I don't want to talk to you, and likely vise-versa. The obligatory Obama bumper sticker on a Prius pretty much guarantees my complete disinterest. I'm also guessing the NRA, GOA and SAF stickers on my truck do the same for the Prius driver. And thats the intent.

That said, the funniest bumper sticker I've seen is "I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left"

One of the late night hosts remarked in his monologue that "the best result of the cash for clunkers program is that it took 90% of the Obama for President bumper stickers off the road".

Another bit from a couple years back showed pictures of different bumper stickers, and the guest comic commented on what the real meaning was. When they showed a picture of a Bush/Cheney 04 sticker, he commented it meant "I can't get this damn sticker off my car!"

Or George Carlin from a few years back, saying that the yellow diamond "Baby on Board" and "Children in Car" signs in other car's rear windshields meant "********* Behind the Wheel".

Bumper stickers are annoying. At least most MB drivers have class, I rarely ever see one on a MB.

That theory can probably be extended to all bumper stickers. Isn't it just a little narcissistic for someone to assume that everyone on the road cares what they think about anything?
