Server Related SATA Question

Ok, so I found a server for 25 bucks (rocks) I have the primary HDD on a SATA controller that's 2 channels. I have another SATA Controller that has 4 channels, Can I switch out these controllers without having to reinstall Server 2003?

Are these SATA controllers on PCI or PCIe slots? If it was me, I'd put the new controller along side the 2 channel, get it fully installed in the OS then shut down and move the HD to the new controller.

If you pre-load the driver for the new controller into Server 2003 it should work. At worst you'd just need to boot a pxe boot and insert the right files for the new card.

What kind of server is it?

Probably not PCIe unless it is pretty new. How old is the board?
