If they dropped a Nuke on the blue guys they would not have been able to mine there for a number of years.
Plus the movie would have been over in about 30 minutes.
'Avatar' is coming out on DVD soon, which is not real news, and I am wondering how well it will do in sales without the 3-D? In my old age I am beginning to keep up with the film biz more and more so I wonder about these things.
Time will tell.

Not necessarily, a low yield tactical nuke would quickly and easily eliminate the blue people with minimal fall out. It would vaporize the stupid tree and the little people very quickly. Heck I doubt they would know what hit them.
Even then, they could just do some orbital bombardment with some conventional firebombs and get rid of the smurfs. No nuke needed.
Like I said earlier, the final battle scene could have easily been won without the use of those stupid helicopter things. Just launch some nice SCUD missiles or ICBM from space.
Granted, I am happy I didn't pay any money to see the movie. I would have appreciated it in 3D on the premise that the amount of work that went into developing the stereoscopic video technology was incredible. However explosions, blue people sex, and 3D don't make up for a lack luster story line.
