The crotchety old man here has Google Advanced Search as his home page.

If they've made any changes there, those changes were too subtle to catch his attention.

I don't see any difference except the color of the buttons...I use igoogle anyways

I personally don't like this overuse of AJAX. Webpages are static documents not some development platform.

And on top of that firefox really needs to fix their javascript engine. Freaking internet explorer does better on speed!

The standard Google home page? The left-hand navigation bar on the search results page? Something else?
