Ford Tractor
After six years of hibernation I got my father's 1940 Ford 9N back in operation. My father passed away in March and I inherited the tractor. He used the tractor to maintain a gravel road to his home, unfortunately, he had a stroke which disabled him for several years.
My father found the tractor neglected at a local farm over 25 years ago. Together we spent much time with the restoration. It gave me great joy to have it running again and wish to share the experience.

There's a lot of those Ford tractors here in Korntucky, I often make quality vinyl graphic for people that are restoring those old tractors. Have fun with the old tractor my man.

That's great! I love those old Fords (almost as much as old Cornbinders ). Very cool that you have those memories of the restoration of the tractor with your dad, that makes it even that much more special. Hope you get lots and lots of use out of it. Do it and your father proud!

For the last 5 years I've used a 1948 8N for my mowing needs, these tractors are remarkably well engineered and built machines.
I noticed a couple of years ago that somewhere along the line someone actually installed a 9N engine in my 8N frame. According to the serial number on my 9N engine, like your Dad's tractor, it was produced sometime in early 1940. I always snicker a bit when I hear all the claims about how long Mercedes Diesel engines last, Uh yeah sure... get back to me when your car hits the half century mark and we'll talk. Pertronix makes a plug-and-play electronic ignition upgrade kit, it's a great addition and I highly recommend it if you want to use the tractor for daily work.

When I was up to about six we lived with my Grandfather. He worked at Studebakers in South Bend and farmed in his "spare" time. He had a ford that color. I suppose it probably was a pre war model too. I used to ride standing on the axle and leaning on the fender with him!

Good on you! My next door neighbor just bought a cosmetically rough Ford 2N, but it runs very well. First "real" farm tractor I ever drove. Clutch is perfect, super smooth. You can turn the front wheels almost 90 degrees!

Very nice!
A friend had one similar, don't know the model number, but it had a brake pedal on each side like yours. Not a big deal out in the field, but on the road it made coming to a stop interesting. |

Nice tractor!
Thank you for sharing the story of your Ford tractor, you and your Dad. It sad when your Dad passes - but comforting to have had the sharing mechanical experiences with him. I have all my Dad's tools, jackstands, and workbench from the home we grew up in in Omaha, NE - there's no way I'll ever use them all - especially the woodworking and plumbing-specific ones, but it's comforting nonetheless.
