Ebay.... do you ever?

What are the chances that you find what you are looking for on Ebay and actually feel comfortable with the price?

Do you hate Ebay because of the sleazy sellers, overpricing, or its wonderful risk/reward program?

just curious, and might want to sell some stuff.

For the last 7 years I had my good and bad hits on eBay. I got 3 of my cars from eBay and they all were a good buys, the issues I have experienced are related usually to small items...around $20/30 bucks category.
I sold a few bits and 2 cars using eBay and every time the buyers left 100% feedback. I am on a small side compare to some other on it. Only 285 feed-backs for 7 years this is not a lot...about 3 transactions per month.
Overall I am happy with it.

Ebay is like any online auction seller. If you are buying, set your limit & dont go over it. There are plenty of stories of people getting ripped off big time. I believe for anything over say $250 you need to go and inspect it before committing to it.
If selling, set a reasonable starting price & reserve & be careful if its a big item. I have heard of many getting friends to run bids up for them.

I love ebay, it's awesome for finding obscure things or things really cheaply. That's pretty much it, though, and you have to shop around and do your research, otherwise, it's easy to get ripped off.

Ebay is funny, everyone complains ebay is overpriced, so I've always based my pricing o half off of ebay and people still want to haggle. People on ebay also sometimes expect ridiculous things. I had a guy win an auction friday night. I put it in the mail monday morning. Monday afternoon he had reported me to paypal fraud and had my account seized. I am not a store, just an individual.

I <3 ebay. Hahaha. I have yet to get a bad seller. But that's because I usually do "buy only" and make sure that the person has a LOT of people who bought from them, and they got good reviews. I actually do go and read reviews...just to see the types of things people say.

But, I usually go on half.com. Which is a branch of ebay. It's all buy only and no bidding, which I like. And I haven't heard anyone say anything bad about half.com unless they are looking for stuff that half.com doesn't have >.<

I also just recently got an amazon.com account...I like it...I'm gonna go try selling stuff on it for the first time ever soon too. THAT I am a little nervous about...because I rarely go to the post office so if I have to go and send these things, and figure out the right shipping and handling...it's gonna be new for me. Haha.

I generally feel comfortable with the prices I get. If it's USED and it's expensive, I don't bother, and if it's new and TOO cheap(which ...I don't think I've really seen) then I also am a little sketchy about it. Usually if it's too cheap...the "shipping and handling" price is very expensive...so I know what they are trying to do.

Enjoy your Ebay-ing! Let us know how it goes! I particularly would like to hear about the wonders of selling things.

I have a really small feedback at %100. But I have had my account since 2001. If anyone pays attention, I think they see I am legit.

I am asking because I haven't had much luck lately on there. I thought maybe it dried up a bit.

Sounds like y'all gals n' guys are tellin' me it still works.

Ebay has it place, but they suck if you get ripped off, you are on your own. When the bought PAYPAL and forced that on everyone, I quit using it.

This is why Craigslist is so popular.

We got two of our cars on ebay, but that was long ago (2003/2004), I use it occasionally to sell/get stuff, but not very often.

I sold a CPU a few months ago that some person in Iran bid-sniped at the last second, then never responded or paid so I had to wait 10 days for a fee refund and sale-reversal. Then I had to re-list it again. Make sure to set your seller preferences to USA/Canada bids only. And watch seller locations. I bought a network switch from a guy supposedly in New Jersey, it ended up shipping from PRUDHOE BAY ALASKA. As in, practically the farthest away it could possibly have been. Took 3.5 weeks to get the stupid thing. Ends up that he "does work there often". So say that is where you are! Ok, done venting. At least the thing was a good deal and arrived in good shape.

Yes, I find good deals that I am comfortable with, and good responsible sellers.

Yes, I hate Ebay because of the sleazy sellers, ridiculous prices and out-on-a-limb method of exchanging money for products.

Truly a mixed bag, and in order to enjoy Ebaying, you really have to spend some time researching the item, the seller, and the particulars of shipping.

5 years ago when I was a constantly shopping for Mercedes parts, I got loads of decent fairly priced parts by bidding in the auction type format.

Now when I shop, 90%+ of all part listings are over priced buy it now auctions. Seems like all the private sellers have left Ebay, replaced by greedy, ridiculously priced businesses. I see the same overpriced items relisted week after week and many items have been listed for multipe years.

I haven't seen a decent Ebay auction on Mercedes parts in a long time. I have bought nothing in the last 18 months. Many times, people/businesses are trying to sell used parts for more money than new retail parts.

Compared to 5 years ago, EBAY sucks.

If you spend some time reading the "Seller Central" message board on eBay, you will learn that there are plenty of people who feel that things have "dried up a bit" - dried up a lot, actually - in recent times.

The folks at eBay have made some really big changes in the last few months. Some sellers are doing OK, but some are doing very, very badly now. I think it depends a lot upon the sort of goods one is selling.

Very seldom will you find a bargain in 10 secs of looking.

Bargains on ebay require patience.

I upgraded my 3/8" and 1/2" sockets to Craftsman laser marked
for about $40 and Im good to 32mm.

Still looking for a 46mm deal.

I have refitted my printing and sign shop off of ebay. Like a another poster said be patient and you will find a deal. My wife has 1070 positive and about 99% of them are from buying. She has had only two bad experiences. That is a pretty good percentage I think.

I have always had good luck with ebay. You just have to know what your looking for, and do your homework. Deals come along.

These days I do most of my shopping on Gunbroker.com which was created when ebay got rid of firearms sales.
