Retractable cord trouble light?

I have one of these which I have had for maybe ten or twelve years. ONe of the handiest tools I ever bought for my Garage. It is a craftsman.

The cord is total crap and it has now cleaned itself of any meaningful insulation to the point where it is unusable any more.

Can anybody recommend a decent quality example brand?

I would like a fluorescent if possible.

Can you re-wire the light? If not I suggest you check out led trouble lights before you make a purchase.

I suppose theoretically I could rewire it. Where to buy cord?

Any brands suggested on the LED lights?

I think I will swing by Ace hardware tomorrow.

Thanks very much!

They have one at Napa that's rechargeable. It's the length of the hood and comes with clamps to hold it on the hood.
The best thing is no cord. The charge is supposed to last 4-6 hours. It was on special for 59.00 originally 99.00

Ive been using a L.E.D. head band light for two months on the same three triple A batteries. Its pretty bright I thought for sure it would burn through batteries. Energizer brand found it at wally world.

Here's the under hood light

I don't have one though, so can't vouch for the quality.

That looked good until I saw the shipping for 15.

I think I will look locally to see what is available.

Thanks very much for all the great ideas!

The underhood thing is pretty attractive too but I like the idea of being able to move it around and hang it here or there, and at the moment am swapping the motor out in my Miata and the hood is off!

No hood with a hood light ..............That could pose a problem.

I popped over to Ace after work and bought a snap on brand retractible extension cord. They did not have any led rechargible lights. I also bought a fairly long fluorescent with a 25' cord.

Seems good so far.

Thanks again!
