Dude! Snap out of it. One guy writes a list starting with who Jesus's daddy was, and who HIS daddy was, on so on, stretching back to the very beginning, yes sir folks, right back to Adam and his lovely wife Eve. And then, dearly beloved, it's a simple matter of assigning an average age for childbirth to that succession of lineage and we arrive at 6,000 years. Of course, that guy was guided by God - every word my brothers and sisters - and there was absolutely no chance that he got a single one of those wrong.

That's how they did it, wasn't it?

All right boys and girls.

This is a pointless argument that no one will win, whatever you believe.

We each have our own beliefs, respect that.

My comment was not meant to start this, I tried to keep in PC.

I thought the Mayans were crushed out by the conquistadors?
Machu Picchu was the only Mayan civilization that really survived for a time.
But then again I may be wrong.

I think we've done a much better job than mother nature in controlling our population. How many people have died in all the wars throughout history? I think the most common answer is around 15 billion.

I think things will really go in the crapper when the oil and other natural resources run out. Global warfare and economic collapse resulting in nuclear warefare will be the end of us all. That's my prediction.

But then again Edgar Casey predicted a major upheaval in 2012:
Quote:
When asked what the New Age means to humanity, Edgar Cayce replied: “by the full consciousness of the ability to communicate with the Creative Forces and be aware of the relationships to the Creative Forces and the uses of same in material environs. This awareness during the era or age in the Age of Atlantis and Lemuria or Mu brought what? Destruction to man, and his beginning of the needs of the journey up through that of selfishness.”

There were still Mayan groups running around the jungle when the Spanish arrived, as there are today, but Classic Mayan society was long gone by the time Europeans arrived. By about 600 years in fact. Your misconception may be due to the final scene in that recent movie (whose name escapes me at the moment) where the Mayan guy peers out of the trees towards the ocean and sees a Spanish ship on the horizon. Pure fiction. Wasn't that a Mel Gibson production?

I was talking to some folks of (partial) Mayan decent in Mexico last year, they were not impressed with that movie. Apparently they had a pretty advanced civilization, the ruins are very impressive.

They certainly did. I think what a lot of people forget is that people living thousands of years ago had the same brain power as people do today (hell maybe more, considering the Idiocracy effect.. ). They just didn't have the technology that has developed over time that we enjoy today.

Yes, some of those engineering/construction projects would be challenging today. Also, modern building materials do not have the same longevity as stone construction. Most ancient ruins will outlast modern buildings.

I may be wrong, I certainly don't read the bible, but I don't think the bible actually addresses the age of the earth. Apparently, the "young earth creationists" base that number on some convoluted interpretation of several bible passages; interperating one day as being equal to 1000 years, etc.

Certainly most Christian theologians over the last couple of thousand years have not imagined the Bible to be addressing questions like the age of the earth. They certainly didn't think the Bible provided scientific truth.
