We have speed cams, red light cams, and random sobriety checkpoints. I realize its all for the 'greater good' but there is definitely a big-brother atmosphere that I don't like.

"'Greater Good". Now there's a phrase that should send cold shivers up your spine!

Agreed. The only greater good is a new revenue source for the state. Red light and speed cameras don't do any good in helping lower traffic fatalities. In fact sometimes municipalities even lower the time duration for the yellow light so people will end up slamming their brakes to avoid the tickets. When it comes to revenue, politicians will do anything. http://vtrc.virginiadot.org/PubDetails.aspx?PubNo=05-R21 http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/31/3128.asp

I just got a ticket in GA. I was doing 80ish and he clocked me at 86. I argued but not too hard. paid out the ticket, around $120. two weeks later with my guilty plea in hand they sent me a "super speeder" ticket for an additional $200, super speeder is over 85, hence the 86 ticket I now see.... bastages

We talked a bit about New Jersey but Ohio was also in the top three and that reminded me of this thread from a few months ago

yep, at night, I was going north trying to get to Chattanooga for the night, they got me in Ringold, but 85 on highway is the super speeder law. they have already said it is a money fund for emergency services. it is already raising a stink in the first months appearently as I research it, but they screwed me. For those that say just dont sped, I was going around 80 in a 75 and they ticketed me at 86. I should have fought the speed he put on the ticket at that moment but didnt think it made much difference, but it did to the tune of an additional $200. I was guilty of maybe 5 over and having florida plates

I rarely speed more than 4 mph over. It just doesn't pay - and the tickets are astronomical. I love hanging onto my money, so I don't speed.....unless 4 mph is egregious.
