2001 Jetta, Rear Calipers

I have been asked to look at changing the brakes on my cousin's 2001 Jetta. Working on the rear brakes. I can not back the caliper off. The caliper piston is slotted. My first guess was to adjust the piston for the parking brake, however, I have tried turning it without any change. Does anyone here know how to back off these rear calipers?
Thank you in advance,
Nate
