There must be a simpler way.

Is auto arrange disabled? It should be unchecked if you want your desktop icons to stay where you place them. Just right click desktop, click view, then uncheck auto-arrange.

Exactly. And most stuff works fine on 64-bit.

I am sure someone on this forum is running vista/firefox with a 64bit OS. Am i the only one having this problem?

420 - I'm running Windows 7/64. I use Firefox and other browsers. What exactly is the issue? Your desktop icons aren't staying in place?

Mine never move unless I change the resolution, which isn't something you really ever need to do with an LCD...

If you arrange yours and then they change again when you log off, I would guess there is an issue saving your user profile. When you log off, Windows should save your settings, including your desktop. If it is not, you can try creating a new profile and see if that works.

Windows 7/64 has been working very well for me (upgraded from Vista 32).

Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > Add or Remove User Accounts. Just try creating/adding a new one. Call it whatever you want and set it up as admin. Then log off, log into the new account and resize/move your icons around. Log off again, log back on and see if everything stays put. It should.
