I have no idea what the correct wheels are really worth, I doubt it's that much.

Find another set. That sounds ludicrous but if he's got the only set around... you'll have to pay for them.

You were generous Clk man !!
They would need to have some more of the car attached for their asking price !!
Probably you could get new ones from MB in Germany for much less.
I wonder what became of the rest of the car?
Maybe There will be more adds from them.
You could have asked if they came with the original air from the tires.

I've started seeing alot of eBay sellers listing items this way: outrageous starting bids and then the "make an offer" option. Guess they think it draws in the page views and then wait for an offer. Make no sense to me though....

This is one of the things I dislike about eBay. People are able to ask astronomical prices and have no motivation to sell for less, due to the almost-zero overhead. A real business with expenses wouldn't be able to do that; eventually, the lost revenue from storing Gullwing wheels would force them to lower the price (or, I guess, keep losing money).
One of the many reasons I don't think businesses should be allowed to sell through eBay.

When I sold my delorean parts I listed everything at like $15... the lowest price something went for was $200.. most expensive was $1100 for a binnacle.( Fender went for 1500 on a forum and the hood too!)

I just recently sold my Air Guitar on Ebay, for the bargain price of $300.00 to some Canadian guy. It needed a set of strings, and a new whammy bar. I sat on it for a while waiting for the big bucks because storage wasn't a huge issue..
