Rommel to the storage yard, @#$!#@$ HOA

Rommel got hit by car burglars again. At first I didn't think it was serious, they got a $50 radio. A few days later I went to drive the car and almost nothing electrical worked. Turns out they pulled out every wire they could get a hold of reaching throught the radio hole and under the dash, in the process, they shorted out a lot of stuff.

Before I could get the electrical system fixed, the inspection ran out. Got a letter from the home owner's association about an uninspected car in the driveway. Hah! Move it to the road!

I've been working 10 hour shifts, 6 days a week, so Sundays are it for working on cars. First Sunday, got the dash removed. None of the DYI instructions I found said anything about the controls below the vents. Second Sunday I got almost everything except for turn signals working, that is when the notice from the HOA came. I moved it to the street and 2 days later I get a ticket from the city for storing an uninspected vehicle on a public road ($48), a notice from the city that the car would be impounded in 24 hours if not moved and a note on the car from the HOA saying I better not put it back in the driveway. #%(^! HOA called the cops.

Thank God the company I work for is closing the plant where I work. After the closure, I will either be living in an HOA-free neighborhood or out in the country.

You are free to live in a non HOA community, should you so choose.
I exercise that right, and would fight any attempts to impose such busy-body interference where I have lived for over 25 years. In my experience, HOA are run by people who thrive on selective enforcement of their covenants.

With your current hassles with the HOA regarding vehicles, aren't you the one considering taking on the 3000GT on another thread?

That is complete bull with the HOA. Aren't they supposed to be in power to prevent this type of theft in the first place? I would make sure to point that out if/when you fight it.

Just another example of why I will never live where there is an HOA. A reasonable idea conceived to keep the neighborhood nice, which has degraded (in many cases) to a bunch of busybodies who can't kep their nose out of other peoples business, and apparently, like to kick while you're down... How easy for the same group of people, with a different attitude, to create a temporary exclusion for you based upon the circumstances which have befallen the vehicle. But, that would be helpful... neighborly even...

What's wrong with the garage? My city has an ordnance that says you have cannot park cars there for longer than 24 hrs. Simple solution when my truck is on the road. Move it ever 24 hrs. Problem solved.

There is nothing in the world that can prevent theft. IF you have an armed police force and they cannot, what makes you think you can even come close to that with a HOA? What is there to fight? They don't want John Redneck to be having a broken down car in his driveway so they insist on an inspected vehicle. The last 2 places I moved into with a HOA, they laid down the rules BEFORE I closed and gave me a physical copy of the rules on closing and an email. Some neighborhoods do not want commercial vehicles there. They lay it down and you know that before you move in.

You people sound like my neighbor who didn't have AC. He wanted to put a window unit and then *****ed that he was told to remove it. Hello! It is in the rules because they want to keep trash out. You want to live in trash, move to a trailer park.

How many as a percentage have degraded? And yes, it is their business. I am trying to sell a house right now and I sure as hell don't want some idiot to be making a mess in his yard which encourages others to do the same and thus lower my selling price.

Did he even go to the President to ask? When building a shed, I consulted my HOA President. I asked what would make her say "No". She told me that if I was going to tack a few 2X4s together and call it a shed or paint it pink with green polka dots, probably not. Looked at my plans and signed off on it. Where is the difficulty?

sorry to hear about your situation. unfortunately, this is a case where you have been victimized three times. once by the thieves, secondly by the HOA and then by the city. those people have little to no sympathy or empathy about your long work hours or the fact that your car was destroyed by degenerates.

you see, their lives are perfect and they never ever experience the same problems that you and I do. if I were in your situation I would be looking for a way out of the HOA busybody mentality ASAP. in other words, time to move to a rural, less intrusive setting.......

they are power control freaks, they love being in the position of being able to tell you 'yes' or 'no'. however, let us not forget that you volunteered to place yourself under their control.

unfortunately, neighborly and helpful are concepts which vanished many moons ago.

today's neighbor motto:

"do unto my neighbor before he does unto me".

I agree, I certainly do not want to live someplace that allows commercial vehicles, AC units, or unregistered cars to be in public view. I have too much money invested in my house to live next to the beverly hillbillies. Folks who object to these rules have plenty of other places to live.

I would agree if the "exclusion" was for hours, or even for a few day; if it's weeks or months, not so much.

I searched until I found a neighborhood which was upscale enough to avoid those issues without an HOA. Glad that some people prefer the HOA places, if everybody wanted what I like, it would have cost more...

Aklim, I understand that you love HOA's, probably the president of yours, but you will never convince those of us who refuse to wear that yoke of suppression....

true enough, weeks and months become exceptions....then everybody would be doing it...
