If price remains your bottomline consideration, locally produced food will always be the loser. False economy when you consider the real price of food produced industrially and shipped hundreds or even thousands of miles.

Very true. I was thinking back a few years to when you only had the big 5 or so national breweries. My personal favorite right now is the Lancaster Brewery. They have an awesome milk stoudt.( may only have one or two before your full)

The U.S. microbrewery explosion in recent years is great. There's always new beer to try. I won't say that U.S. made beer is necessarily the best there is, I've tasted a lot of expensive bad beer made at microbreweries. One thing in particular that bugs me about American microbrews is the heavy handed use of hops in many of these beers. It often seems to me there's no attempt made to balance malt and hops. There aren't nearly as many malty Scottish Ale type brews as there are pucker-your-a$$ IPA's. I'll take a McEwan's, a Newcastle, a Warsteiner Dunkel, or an old style Guinness over many U.S. brews. I realize it's just a taste preference, in the end the best beer is the one you don't have to pay for.

Price for quality. I don't want to pay prime rib prices for ground beef. OTOH, I will pay more for better cuts that I can taste.

If I pay more for the same cuts of meat or vegetables, I expect more. If you fail to produce, I move on. If Wal*Mart's Fillet Mignon isn't as tender and juicy as Sentry's, which it isn't, I don't buy their FM. I will pay more. HOWEVER, I expect to be able to taste the difference to justify the difference in price.
