October roll-call.

Howdy All,
The older I get the quicker this thread seems to come around LOL. Dog's competitive running season starts later this month. What is going on with all of you?

Still here. Things are finally starting to calm down around here and I hope to be able to wrap up all the repairs needed on the 300TD by the end of the month.

6 more weeks and I'll be finished with my first round of P90X. I should be ripped just in time for the cold weather. Looking forward to the skiing season. Woo Hoo!!! My son is finally old enough to start training on the bunny hill.

Fine weekend ahead. Temp in the low to mid eighties with a light breeze. The 113 is still running good so that spells a couple of good day trips.

Thumbs up

Finished up w/my 23rd parade season...no one injured on my watch...yet. HOWEVER...WAY AHEAD OF US...one 12/14yo fell off his float last night (Habitat For Humanity) and got run over by it...lower body injury (they believe it was just a broken leg)...he was doing EXACTLY what the rules said NOT to do...passing out candy FROM the float itself. The parade was suppose to start around 1900 and last 'til 2000...instead, it didn't finish 'til 2130 due to his fall/fracture. LOOOOONG night getting everyone returned to the staging area and all the pieces back to where they belonged.

This year, the LCRP Float, in the OKTOBERFEST Maple Leaf Parade, got rid of over 230#s of candy. Last night...not quite so much, but BOY HOWDY!!! Was there ever the crowd! It was the largest I've seen in over 20 years...I just wished we had a few more bodies than we did to handle it.

Other than that...we have a "Color Cruise" coming up tomorrow and a Car Club Picnic this Sunday...throwing on a sweatshirt should be all we need and a little "hot chocolate" to keep the upper lip warm.

I'm heading out right now to put about 250 miles, or so, on the SLC...then I'll see how much tomorrow will add...and I'll be watching REALLY CAREFULLY for those 4-legged brown sprinters we have too many of up here...they can ruin a perfectly good evening...let alone the car itself!!!

Somehow, I'm still here.

ANYONE know the best way to quicken the recovery for a sprained ankle? Walking around campus is gonna be a B!?$# if I have been walking around like I was today. I had to walk very slow...and if I didn't, I'd twist the wrong way and it would hurt a LOT. I am reminding myself of how my grandmother used to walk...very slowly. Perhaps her legs hurt constantly? I don't know. But I realize how much I DON'T want to get old if I end up being like this...

The best way is to not use it for a week. You can spend a week down or fight it for 6-8 weeks. Your choice.

Any joint or muscle strain is treated the same way.

R.I.C.E. Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation.

Lay your butt down on a couch, get that leg elevated, use a light wrap on the ankle and use ice for the pain. Avoid using pain killers because they will allow you to further strain the muscles. An anti-inflammatory will help. Naproxium Sodium by any of its trade names.

Lucky me, it's BOTH my ankles. One worse than the other though. Erm...I have to walk around a college campus to get to my classes which all seem to use "participation" as part of my grade...

Any specific names come to mind for an anti-inflammatory? Also, will I need a prescription for it? Or do they have some over-the-counter stuff for that?

You slip down a hill and have both your ankles land in a bad position at the same time...I guess

I guess it had to be 2 ankles at once, because I don't think I've ever sprained even one ankle before now...maybe once...or a few times when I was younger and just can't remember....

Come on!! At least make up something entertaining. And/or improbable. Something involving waterskis and body shots of tequila, for a starter.

The wilder and more imaginative, the better. Laughter always helps the pain.
