I give up

How people would vote for higher taxes on themselves is beyond my comprehension.

I fall in this category. I would vote for higher taxes.

My kids go to private school but I would still vote for higher property taxes because it makes the public schools in the county I live in better.

It helps to think of it in an extreme way. Let's say they could not afford to pay the teachers anything and the kids end up not learning how to read (at all). Say I'm driving in my car and I get killed by one of the students at an intersection because he could not read "STOP". Who's fault is that? Mine or the kid's. Your call.

My point is that everyone benefits from the community owned 'goods'- in this case, the literacy of kids. It could very well apply to roads, defense, etc etc.

There is a flip side to this. I happen to be an accountant so I know the tax laws very well. I know when to zig and when to zag (legally of course) so my taxes are minimized. My 'realized' income is much larger than my 'taxable' income.

I personally think a lot of people can live much better on a lot less if they just took the time to do some tax planning.

Why people would vote against investing in the futures/well being of their friends neighbors and communities is beyond me Not surprised one bit at the election results, the pendelum swings back the other way. Hope the republicans can rock the house and actually get something passed.......

I understand your point, but with my children already grown and living in a small town, I respectfully disagree. Here in my own town, we just elected a woman with a proven record of financial failure as Mayor because everyone likes her. Liking someone doesn't make good business sense.

Without more specifics.........

Because they were originally told:
"The Government will pay your student loans off.
The Government will pay for ALL of your college costs.
The Government will pay your house payment.
The Government will pay your car payment.
The Governemnt will pay for your gasoline.
The Government will pay for ALL of your healthcare and dental costs."

I'm sure there were more lies told by what's his face to the unwitting American people (2) years ago.

Many of those people that believed that BS free stuff were too embarrassed to even vote today.

We now realize where that ended up.......

That a fascist fairy tale. No one ever said that.
But the g'ment did say Iraq could bomb our cities with chemical weapons.
The g'ment did say Iraq possessed WMD.
The g'ment did say Iraq was involved in the attacks of Sep 11.

Many voters have decided we should to return to those days of $4 gallon gas.

I respect your position completely but do you really think that making only people with kids pay higher taxes will fly? maybe. i don't know if the tax revenue will be enough to support all the schooling needs of the area.

You can do a number of things-
1. move to different place (florida perhaps)
2. vote against the bond or candidates who want to raise the tax (good luck sorting them out)

If the mayor is cute, well, that changes things a lot. I would have voted for Nikki Haley of SC if I lived there.

Though they deny it every moment they can, republicans are as a whole, only concerned about themselves and their own little private rich communities. They are A-ok with cheating the masses if it means a few extra $$ in their personal hordes. Its all about taxes, not actually anything important......they will let public schools deteriorate, because they send their own kids to rich private schools, they will take away funding from public programs, that create many jobs and help lots of people, so they can "balance" the budget and look good to their republican friends....its all just a game. Its rather repulsive.

I voted for $$ to go to local libraries. I don't regret it.

And now that I think about it, I work at a place that could make libraries obsolete. How's that for odd

Libraries won't be obsolete for a looooooooong time. There's still a LOT of people out there that have no computer at home. And of the ones that do, a percentage who have an old ancient/useless one and can't afford internet access.

NOBODY EVER promised or told ANYONE that. What a complete, utter load of BS. Nobody, not even arch conservatives with a lick of sense would ever seriously believe this nonsense.

The first one was never said and the others are true. Better read the papers. Lots of chemical weapons found, Al Qaeda camps all over Iraq.

The problem with the WMD story was Bush sold the public on tactical reasons to get Saddam, when he should have used strategic reasons, which are much more involved and important. Very Vietnamish in that regard.
