British laws rhyme?

Just found this little tid bit from an article about a boy who found a gold trinket. Apparently in the UK if you find treasure you have to forfeit the findings to the crown. Here's the applicable law:

(1)When treasure is found it vests;
subject to prior rights and interests --
(a)if there is one in the franchisee,
(b)otherwise, to her Majesty!

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1996/24/section/10

I wonder how a rhyming patriot act would sound

The part you didn't bother to find out is what happen next....

You have missed the most important part of the document:

"(4)The total reward must not exceed the treasure’s market value.

(5)The reward may be payable to—

(a)the finder or any other person involved in the find;

(b)the occupier of the land at the time of the find;

(c)any person who had an interest in the land at that time, or has had such an interest at any time since then."

So....the find is valued at market value and the British Museum pay in cash. 50% to the person who have discovered the treasure and 50% to the land owner.
The trinket in question will bring the 3 years old boy something in the region of £1.25 million pounds TAX FREE.
So before you having a joke about it, think about the bank account of this kid in 20 years from now even with the $hitty interest rates at the moment.

Its much easier to just find money !!
Who said it was found in England? Just relocate the find to some country in the EU that doesnt have the law.

Yeah move to the US and call in the antique roadshow.

I'd love to see the look on the appraiser's face.
