Agreed...Formula Ford/Mazda look like a hoot, but too rich for my blood.

The wife and I spent many a year kart racing. Much more affordable, and it hits the same adrenaline buttons. There's nothing quite like heading into turn one after the green flag drops, four abreast - when there's only room for two.

The nice thing about this class is the minimum weight includes the driver so a 200 pounder like me can (theoretically at least) compete with light fellows.

Unfortunately though the reality is that probably taking out 40# of weight is probably difficult.

I am going on a diet though and already have lost 2#!

Are there restrictions on where/how weight can be added for the light guys?

That was always an issue in karting. Like your class, everything I raced in had minimum weights that included the driver. However, smaller guys always had a slight advantage, as they could place the weight where they wanted to. Adding 20 pounds of lead in a kart frame or attached to the bottom of a seat, is better than having the same weight distributed higher on the driver...

So you're saying Pamela Anderson would have been at a disadvantage a few years ago?

In a sprint kart - you bet.

In an enduro...not so much.

I don't really know the rules yet. I assume you can add it where you like.

Lets see with Pam would that be sprung or unsprung weight?

Ummm, have you ever considered the laws of aerodynamics and air flow restriction?

Actually the seller is planning to get an older one like that Crossle so he can run in vintage classes.

Actually in looking at this swift, I realize that the Reynard is very similar in most details to it. The seller told me that the Reynard actually was intended to mimic the swift but did not have a car to measure and did it all from photographs and so missed on the total width making the Reynard wider and so less slippery. The swift has been the car to beat in FF for some time now because of its extreme narrow and slippery form. I see some details I can add to my car to make it slipperyer.

No windscreen? Do they go fast enough where a windscreen may have some aero advantage?
