Republican conflict in Texas...
Since 2002 the Repubs have controled the House in Texas so they are busy electing a Speaker.
One of the Ledge members is accused of making threats against other lawmakers in order to get his guy elected, and now a closed door session is taking place to decide how to deal with the situation. The threat was that if a lawmaker did not vote the right way he would be re-districted out of a job in 2012, and the one making the threat has the ability to do this, or at least he likes to give that impression. So... Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I am sure this type of stuff has been going on forever and not just in Texas, but one lawmaker, also a Republican, was so upset by this he turned the guy in. I mean... A member of the Texas Ledge behaving in an honest manner? Can this be true? Perhaps the real story here is not a Republican or a Democrat thing but it is that a member of the Texas Ledge is pointing out bad behavior and behaving respectably! I never thought I would live to see it. What is this world coming to? |

Quote:
Take Alabama for instance. The DNC is puzzled by why the 4 Dems switched sides when they survived a Rep sweep. Same reason the Rep switched a few years back. My chances are better here. All over the USA and the world, people will be people and look out for #1. Whatever your angle is, the principle is the same. Maybe for some it is money, others it is power and others it is to please their deity, etc, etc but the principle is the same.

I could not agree with you more.
It is just funny to see the members of the Texas Ledge do anything that is even remotely ethical. I have been watching these clowns for many years and they never let you down when it comes to politics good 'ol boy style. Texas Monthly does a best and worst of Texas issue each year and there are always a lot of Ledge members mentioned. This issue is usually the most popular of the year and is always full of laughs. Texans have parties when the Ledge dismisses because they are so glad to see them go. The Ledge also meets only every two years since they do less damage to the state that way. Do a Google search on Ben Sargent cartoons to see how well the Ledge is thought of there. |
