Newer MBs are nice

, it was pretty awesome, more comfy than my w124. Never been in one of these before but I was surprised how comfortable it was after hearing all the feedback from w126 owners. Might have a new car on the list to get....

I know, especially since the organic stuff does such a fine job. IIRC.

Well its because it is legal (for the time being at least) and now that I'm sober I'm not sure why I started this thread

The part about looking at the newer CL and liking it was fine. The rest was simply a case of too much information

Besides, you've got quite the mountain to climb before you equal our resident drunken poster

Yeah the new ones are nice, I find most of the people who bash them have no experience with them.

Wait until you feel how infinitely better the suspensions feel in pretty much all driving conditions... you will get sad.

I don't know. After owning an '06 E3504matic all I can say that they don't make like they used to and that's not a good thing.

In theory it was a much better car than the old ones. Quieter, safer, faster, more fuel efficient, prettier, and the 4matic is amazing.

But....

It was such a complicated delicate piece. It might have run forever but it sure as hell doesn't feel like it was going to. The whole time I had it under warranty I could never get the dealer to fix a rattle in the rear window shade. In the old days they would have rightfully seen that contraption as unneccesary or properly developed it so that it wouldn't rattle. The head rest rattled before and after it was replaced. After a year of complaining I finally got them to fix valve in the evaporative canister system which would pop everytime I came off the highway. On and on. When I would drive over a bumpy street on my way home the chassis felt like it was going in every which direction. On roads which appeared smooth I would still feel crap coming through the steering wheel. Hardly the epitome of solidity that their cars are supposed to be. I took great care to try to keep the car perfect. I once wiped the command screen with a microfiber towel and left a scratch in it.

My whole sense of the company and the cars up to and including my 190E is that the deal was this you will pay a lot for this car but we have designed and built the best car that we know how to build and we expect it to give you good service for the forseeable future.

The E350 was more like we lured you to purchase this car based on our reputation. It's real mission is to be a conduit between your bank account and our profit statement.

I sense that the more recent cars such as the W204's are a return to the old business model and am considering owning one but something like a W216 really should be out of the question unless you have so much money that you don't know what to do with it.

That is well said. I'd NEVER want one of those delicate, fussy, cantankerous, failure prone, gadget laden things in my garage.

Only worth it ----M A Y B E ---- if it was leased as a company car for you to drive and not worry about, and consider it a disposable item when the lease was done.

They are still ultra safe in wrecks, I will concede that.

But durability, reliability, longevity and Gottlieb Daimler's "cost-no-object" (Die beste oder nicht --- the best or nothing at all ) philosophy - has fallen by the wayside since around 2000, when the engineers were shoved aside by the marketers chasing short term profits by electing to squander the brand equity.

Things have improved a bit in the last couple of model years, but there is a LONG long way yet to go.

Just wondering do you have any personal experiance with them? I had a C280 from 2000 and it was the bigges pile of crap ever. I have a 2002 E320 with 100k and its fine and I have had the 05 C Class for a year with no issues. They had a hard spot thanks to Chysler. Now there back. the W211 from 03-06 where issues. 07-09 are strong. No matter what car you buy unless its a exotic its not build like it was 20 years ago. Nothing is due to cost. Look at Toyota, Honda, GM, Nissan with their quality issues. There getting the hammer now.
