Ha - ha! That's funny....

I'm with Billybob - you don't know what you're talking about.

If you did you'd have some sort of substantiating evidence to present.

What the heck is a figurative QUOTE? The quote signifies the remark as directly attributable to someone. Saying its figurative means its not a quote.

The only reason, IMO, for a "figurative quote" would be to make an allegation appear to have more substance than it really merits. i.e. a lie.

Perhaps the last time government and religion truly mixed was from 1920 to 1933 during the era of the Volstead Act.

Except for the fact that it led to untold numbers of murders, the rise of the KKK and the firm establishment of organized crime in the US the whole mixing of government and religion worked out quite well.

By that I mean things were so bad under Republican rule that FDR was elected to more terms then any President before or since and many of the New Deal policies he put into place are with us today.

A friend of mine recently asked me about how to hide the smoke from a fire. He is working on a Civil War film and it is important to the plot that a large fire be built but that it not attract attention.

I just reminded him that large fires were common at the time since they were used for heat, cooking, light, as a weapon.... One more would not attract that much attention.
