This weekend I am going out to Delaware and picking up my 85 Reynard Formula Ford. Naturally we have record cold here today so weather might actually be able to derail the trip.

Last time I went to the east coast about fifteen years ago, it was to purchase an 82 240D. On that trip we encountered a blizzard in the Appalacians and simply slogged through it in my 94 Suburban pulling my utility trailer, passing numerous cars off the road, spun out and one semi which simply stopped driving in the middle of the interstate and was just sitting.....no problem, we just tooled past them all and kept moving.

On the way home, the next day, the road was clear.

That benz had a nice body and lots of recent repairs but had a lot of blowby. I ended up buying it but probably it was not worth the trip to go get.

I am hoping the Reynard is better in respect to condition vs description.

The Reynard I am buying from a middle aged Engineer. The 240 was from a much younger man who seemed honest but uniinformed about how to measure blowby, though he claimed to be a Diesel truck mechanic.

The big Dodge is getting an oil change, tires rotated and another three or four hundred pounds in the back for traction. It just won't go in snow without about 700# in back!

Hopefully, I will be driving my 300D back from OH to CO within the next week too. Hopefully the weather will stay decent for a little while longer.

Will the Reynard be in an enclosed trailer? If the roads are sloppy, an exposed car on a trailer will get a bit of a salt bath.

It has a custom fitted cover, but I expect to need to give it a good bath when I get home.

I wouldn't want to make that trip in anything but a Dodge with a Cummins hope the weather holds out for you have fun. Try to keep your eyes off the mirrors and your new toy.

I will have a hard time seeing it in the mirror I imagine!

On the topic of "diesel truck mechanics" I met some kid who thought he was a real hotshot "agricultural diesel mechanic" put your best good ol boy accent on that, and I asked him about delivery valve seals making my car misfire and his response was what are delivery valves. Bare in mind he went to school for this.
