It's the Demoncrats who still have the majority and won't allow the tax rates to remain the same, they've know they where going to role over since Nov.2 at the latest, they could have planned to pass legislation to raise taxes on the "rich" using reconciliation just like the did ObamaCare. Be realistic the Democrats are impotent frauds, Obama had no capacity to allow just the tax cuts for the wealthy to expire, all the Bush Tax Cuts will expire and become the Obama Tax Increase, the Demoncrats don't have the votes within their own caucus to pass tax cuts for everyone but the wealthy.

The funniest thing is all this is seeing and hearing the Dear Leader and his acolytes now championing the Bush tax cuts for non-wealthy Americans when for the entire post Bush Tax Cut time their mantra "the Bush Tax Cuts Where Nothing More Than Redistribution Upwards and The Bush Tax Cuts Only Benefitted the Top 2%"!

Now the Bush Tax Cuts that in the recent past never benefitted the non-wealthy when Bush was the president and responsible for them are essential and must be maintained at any cost!

But I will say at this time, things were very different in this country when the so called Bush tax cuts were passed compared to now. The recent election was arguably about spending, the deficit and the debt, with the voters completely confused about which party spent the most and caused the greatest deficit and increase in debt.
