Sulfur Hexafluoride Blooper

Lance Lund, a professor at Anoka-Ramsey Community College, was asked to prepare a promotional science video for the college back in 1995 that was to air on a local cable access channel. All went well until he inhaled some sulfur hexafluoride (SF6). The video never aired, but many more of you from around the world will be able to enjoy this blooper thanks to You Tube.

That was back in the days when they made science fun. These days they do nothing like that. I can remember making touch powder, dissecting a rat & trying to bring it back to life, Placing a large lump of sodium in a trash can full of water & putting the lid back on it. Lots of other cool things. No wonder the kids of today dont like chemistry so much, they have taken all the fun away.

Our chemistry instructor still blows things up. She's very good at making class interesting. I visited her class last week and we were looking at the spectrum of light given off by different gases.

long time ago when I was taking chemistry in HS, one fellow put a way too large chunk of Sodium in a 500ml beaker full of water. We NEVER did find the beaker. Scared the bejesus out of us though.
