I just got an iPhone 4 today and went with the 2 gig data plan. I wish I had the unlimited on my blackberry so I could have been grandfathered in. But oh well.

I know if I am on wifi I wont be using data from that 2 gigs, I just need to figure it all out.

Yeah, a smart phone is pretty useless without data on it.

I have unlimted data on my BBery and iPad.

I also have the 2GB plan on my iPhone (had to give up the unlimited plan when I enabled tethering). I don't have much trouble staying under the limit because I don't use the phone to stream video. I have the unlimited plan on my iPad, do I use that for Netflix, etc. When I travel.

Sucks that they downgraded the data plan to limited (200MB or 2GB) usage for "new" data plan users. I've been an AT&T customer since 2004 but only used the data plan now that I've got the BlackBerry. My wife has the unlimited plan since using her iPhone (3GS). Maybe I could upgrade to 2GB data plan.

I can see where the data plan is very helpful but I can also see where it can be such a burden.

It's still cheap, I think I'm paying $45 for the 2GB plan plus tethering and it's something like $10 more for each GB over the limit. My kids still have the unlimited plan on their plans because they don't use tethering.

I just use an old fashion flip phone, works fine for me. Half of my subs hardly know what the internet is.

Unless you need it for work its a toy, my friends use them for posting on face book. Which IMHO is a frivolous expense.

I use mine for work/travel, for my wife/kids they are mostly just toys.

The toy/entertainment part is what bugs me. I first agreed to cell phones for everyone to make sure the kids, etc can stay in touch. Then they needed unlimited texting. Now they want apps and games that have nothing to do with the original purpose. For the same cost of throwing money down that rat hole for 2 years, we could buy a couple new laptops or take a nice vacation. I hate locking in recurring expenses for frivolous things.

I don't really care about the cost, but it is kind of silly. Of course, I waste plenty of money on stuff that's just as silly.

Which plan is that??! The unlimited data plan alone for my iphone is $30.

I have internet access on my phone simply because most of my clients now contact me for work via email and I need to be able to access email any time of the day. It pays for itself in work I get.

What does it do besides portable web access? Don't people spend enough time online as it is?
Verizon Droids (2) with unlimited everything (talk/text/data). Runs about $170/mo with corp. discount.

As I mentioned. Airfire Mobile. Not available in all areas, but the same setup goes by other names. There are many in Chicago, for example. The only "issue" is unlocking the phone so it can be used on any carrier.
