Hows your healthcare insurance premium?

My monthly premium has gone up 40% since the passage of Obamacare for the same coverage. Am I the only one or has anyone else had this experience? Any suggestions on more reasonable coverage? Right now I have what would be considered "catastrophic" coverage. I basically pay for any medical costs my family incurs until a $10k point is reached and then coverage kicks in.

get ready to pay more due to the 'change'. I"ll say it again;

Somehow, someway, the insurance boys ALWAYS come out on top, you and I, however are left holding the proverbial bag along with a big screw through our head. feels good, doesn't it?

That sounds pretty bad....ours has not gone up at all and we only pay up to 2k a year after that everything is covered...sounds like you need to shop around a bit! We also get a health spending account that gives us $100 a month....so in reality only $800 a year out of pocket if any care is needed. Regular checkups are free.....so is a dental cleaning....and glasses....etc..

The root of it is that our country's entire medical system is horribly designed and severely lacking in efficiency compared to our European counterparts. We have giant glass buildings with marble floors, and super high costs. They focus on the people/care, not the multi-million dollar facilities.

Health care for people should never be based on profit, there's no way it can ever be fair/good if it is designed/operated this way.

I thought Obamacare was going to make healthcare more affordable? What happened? When I spoke with my ins. co. about the rate increases they told me it was due to additional costs to them associated with the passage of Obamacare.

I should note that I am self employed so I am not part of any group and am not subsidized by any employer.

Out of curiosity, I checked a current health insurance company's stats at A.M. Best ratings. In one state alone, their health insurance business took in just over $50 million and paid out around $20 million in claims. Talk about profit. Multiply that times 50 states and we are talking BIG BUCKS off the backs of the little people sending in their monthly premiums.......great business model though!

People will never learn. So long as a health care provider is private, they can charge you pretty much whatever they want. If government run care was available, I'd sure be using it, it would save me hundreds a month. Imagine how much more $$ could go into the economy if people were not spending billions on health costs. Then again most of that would go to china, since nothing is made here anymore. Sooner or later this country will learn, hopefully not after its too late.

Exactly. And they can pick and choose who they give care to. People that cost too much get to die. There's the death panels, and they're not government!

Imagine how many more people could receive care if all that profit money was being spent on treatment instead of CEO salaries.

Are you covered through an employer, or are you buying your own policy? Last time I had my own coverage, it was about $1200 per month for the family (about 5-6 years ago). Now we are under my wife's coverage, I think she only pays about $5-600 per month (pre tax) through her employer. I don't know what she was paying last year.

It's called "cost of doing business premium rate hike." You pay them more $$$$ in premiums and in return receive less health care. It's a good deal though......

How does someone working at $7 an hour get health care in this country? Or people without work? They all get left behind thanks to our great system.

My coverage under the state retirement system went up about 40 percent as of Jan. 1. The new policy is a bit better in some ways but none that benefit me. I opted off the state coverage and am now covered under my wife's work policy. Better benefits and we have both of us and our son covered with health, dental and vision for what I was paying for my own health care alone. If the wife should lose her job I can go back in to the state system at any time. Insurance companies are a bunch of f#ckers, just like the banks. The Obama administration and congress should have seen this coming and pushed for further oversight. I agree that as long as healthcare is profit motivated, we're screwed six ways from Sunday.

I think they are eligible for subsidized insurance at reduced or no cost. I thought that's what all the nut-balls were complaining about a few months ago.

Company wide the premium went up 8% on BCBS of MS which the employer pays 60% so its a modest bump on the employee (3%). Dental went up $5 month but major and minor procedures are at 60% now iso 50% I can live with that. Vision stayed the same. LTD is paid by company completely and STD rates went down about 6% overall.

High likelihood they are lying. I don't know what's going on, but I have zero confidence in what they told you.
