The where did that come from thread

This thread is devoted to asking where a phrase came from and people saying where.

I'll start

Where did the phrase come from when Basketball talking heads say "He's shooting it lights out tonight!!!!!!"

Does it mean if you turned out the lights he would still be sinking threes?

And if that is what it means who could tell?

I interpret that to mean; it's a slam dunk, (basket) when he shoots the ball.

I'm not a 'sports guy,' btw. I've got making money on-my-mind, more often than not........

That refers to an engine with a fly ball type govenor tuning at high speed.

I think generally it is talking about outside shooting....mostly threes.
