Still having Router problems

Linksys needs to be reset at least 3 times /week. Is this the norm for routers in general or is it a bad router?

Router (Belkin) No Trouble at All

The #@*((&^> Comcast drops the Modem "Off the Cliff" 7-8 times a week.
[They think it's their cute little way of being able to claim "Alien Abduction" of the Signal, for denial of service.]

Most often its caused by a bad ethernet cable, if wired. If wireless, interference. Best to use channel 11.

Channel 11????? This model WRT54G2 has no channel settings. I called there support Dep't a few weeks ago and got nowhere. Getting 3 to 4 signal drops a week sucks.

If you open a web browser and type in 192.168.1.1 you SHOULD get a prompt that allows you to reach the administration page for your router. (This IP address could be set differently - check your manual)

You need the user and password - user is usually "administrator" - but if you look through the instruction manual that came with the router you should be able to work out what you are meant to do. If you've lost your instructions you can usually get them back in pdf form on the manufacturer's website.

In this page you can change the channel number. The magic number 11 may not be so magic where you are - sometimes you can get interference from other people using the same channel as you.

Are you living in a built up area where lots of other people (probably) use wireless internet too?

Last fall our netgear wireless router needed to be reset 3, 4 times a week. Updated the firmware and it seemed fine.
Last week I could never get over 1 Mbps out of it for my laptop. Reset firmware, reset router and for a millisecond would see 34 Mbps then back to 1 Mbps. Seeing as it was 5 years old I broke down and bought a new one, N600.

Now enjoying 50 to 100 Mbps and can get wifi out in the barn!

Well, it's a 22-year-old car. He probably wants you to take good care of it, lest it goes up in smoke.
