Yes, even tho many of those business assets were owned by the Mafia.

I remember an ethics professor once saying, "You can't have a revolution without first having revolting conditions." I always thought that made pretty good sense. The American middle class has always seemed to me to be one of the biggest stabilizing factors here.

Hence the reason for the government policy of promoting home ownership. People with a stake in the system are also less likely to revolt, well and care.

Be careful, DHS and the Canadian authorities share travel information. You could get the third degree when you come back to the US

I once was talking with a Mexican tourist wheel and he told me that Cancun was a direct result of Cuba going Commie.

After American could not go there the Mexican ramped up their tourist advertising and then spoke to Americans that came there. Mexico was nice, they said, but it was no Cuba.

So the nearest thing Mexico had to Cuban waters was Cancun. Now Cancun is no Cuba; it is said to be a great deal nicer.

Has anybody here been to both? What do you think?

Cancun is very nice, but it is a little too american; you could forget you weren't in the US if you stayed in the tourist areas. Personally, I like the more rural areas better; very nice land and real people. I would be curious to see cuba but going there always seemed like too much of a hassle. I hope we will be able to see it legally in the near future.

Michael Moore found the Cuban healthcare system to be superior to the U.S. Maybe we could learn something from them.

Obviously Micheal Moore didn't learn from them. He's still fat. Enough said.

I would say Moore is obese at least. Now how many Cubans are over weight? I doubt many. So, it is easier to afford medical care if the demand for it isn't as critical.
So, obviously, Moore needs to stop B*&*%#, and take care of his own problem. Maybe then we can afford a universal health care system. See if any of the other countries that have universal health care, have a problem with an over weight population. I think some of them are catching up, as McDonalds etc. have entered their countries. Still, they have a way of catching up to the US. There are statistics as to how much an overweight population cost per year. Its at least a billion for IN, probably a lot more.
and so ....? I don't want to pay for people who don't take responsibility for their own actions. I do think the US needs a basic universal health care.

Mr. Tom: Yes. I internally debated last night whether making that comment was trolling, but, what Michael Moore found in the documentary was that ASPECTS of Cuba's healthcare system responded better than America's. Who am I to disagree with Mr. Moore?

The only time Michael Moore went off-track to looneyland was in his fantasy "Farenheit 911" film. The Cuban documentary (I cannot recall the title of) was right-on, as far as I am concerned.

I have no argument why he is so obese - one way or the other.

I haven't seen any of his films. Not a big fan of his. Its hard to compare different medical systems. I have seen some comparisions on PBS. They all have pluses and minuses. It really comes down to who gets robbed. In Germany its the doctors. I think in Japan its the hospitals. I think Taiwan is suppose to have a good mixture. I think they did copy some aspects of the US system, but also other systems.
OK, let's copy the Cuban system. If they want to quarantine you, they do. Take AIDS. The first 200 cases in the US were traced to one individual. The doctor could only recomend that he be quarantined. In Cuba, they automatically quarantine them. Mainly, soldiers they sent over to Africa. Actually sonds good to an extent. I wonder what Micheal Moore would say if they quarantined him, till he lost a bit of weight? Yeah, its fine to point fingers etc. till that fingers pointed at you in particular.
As, I stated before, I would like to see some type of liable health care system in the US. Maybe the Cuban system has merit. Still, it comes down to who pays for what. Also, medical systems need to be more efficient. Some of that has to do with the paper work / liability that adds to the cost.

Seems like you are a little fixated on weight.

Sure we are a tubby country, but how does that impact our health compared to other countries who are undernourished.

I think a lot of the obesity problem is due to our food supply. A lot of our food is not as healthy as it used to be.
