In the winter about 6 miles.

That's fine, my elevation is about 100ft so I'll have waterfront.

The Pacific is about 4700 feet below and 200 miles east of where I actually live. Or it's about 2 miles (and 1500 feet up) to Lake Tahoe, at least as the crow flies.

From my current location, I haven't mapped it out, but I think I'm a good 200 miles north of the Indian Ocean.
