Just after graduating high school I was driving down the free way and off in the distance I saw and awesome set of tail lights. turns out it was 2 gulwings, a white one and a black one. I came along side them in the SD and gave them both a toothy grin and a big wave. the couples in the guls both laughed and waved back. It was awesome!

They are going up in value like crazy, only a matter of time before they pass a million.

I haven't checked them all, but I don't think there are any 300SL coupes on auction here this week at Barrett Jackson, RM, Gooding or Russo.

One of the guys in our local MBCA chapter has a silver one. I took a bunch of pictures of it at the wine and cheese car show last Fall.

Man, what a beautiful set of cars. Those interiors looked perfect. And boy do I miss the sound of a straight six.

Thank you for sharing that article. One of the best pieces of automotive journalism I've read in a while. The video was simply obscene. It is a bit heartbreaking to me to realize at my age I will never drive, much less own one of these cars. To me that car is the epitome of all things Mercedes. I guess I will just have to settle for a 03+ SL500 someday.

My dad said he had one in his shop back in the 50's/60's. The owner had a hard time paying for the repairs and wanted to give the car to my dad. Dad said the car was not in great shape and need to much work so he passed on the offer.

Yea, I know. Hind sight is 20/20. I always bring that up to my dad as a form of child abuse when he tells me that story. I was deprived of possibly owning/riding in a gull wing. If that is not abuse I do not know what is.

Oh I totally agree. My dad also passed on buying one for $6k in the early / mid 60's. It's a wonder that I can function in society at all.
