Do You Use Protection?

Scratching the Surface on Protecting Your Belolved Device

Inspired by the Trojan truck thread . . .

I admit, that I have used them on my Treo and iPhone. I usually purchase the sheets at the same time I pick up the device so that I can apply them immeidately after I unbox (now there's a term from the tech lexicon) the device. However, in my defense, it's the same thing I used to do with 52mm UV filters whenever I got a new Nikkor lens in my 35mm days.

I used the sheets when I bought my iPhone 3G. I bought an Otter case when I got my 4 and it's got built-in protection.

I've had one on my iphone since day 1. It changes the finish from super glossy to matte, and that is the only noticeable difference. It won't even pick up fingerprints nevermind a scratch. Case-wise I got an expensive case (supposed to be very good) and it broke the first time I dropped it > and it also scratched the backside of the phone pretty badly.

I tried a iPhone screen protector once, but I didn't like it. Mine is naked, but I bought cases for my kids' and wife's iPhones. I have a case for my iPad, but nothing on the screen. Those screens are pretty tough.

I bought one of those Zag protective covers for my HTC Touch Pro, but decided it was a waste. The damned phones don't last that long anyhow. By the time the outside of the phone gets scratched up, it's time to toss it and get a new one anyhow.
More important is what's on the inside. I'm NEVER having another phone that has Microsoft software in it!

I bought the Zag protector sheets for our Droid 2 Globals that the wife and I carry. I also have them in a protective case as well. There doesn't seem to be many protective cases for these phones, as they have the slide out keyboard...but I'm still searching.

I have had a sheet on my el cheapo sci phone from new. As I usually use a ball pen on the screen its a must. The sheet normally lasts about a year before its a mess. The screen is perfect underneath. I think the sheets were under $1 each including postage on fleabay.

Digital Cameras & Barakberry

My Canon Xi120 is a job site tool that rides in a leather BAR Magazine case on my hip and after replacing the previous Xi110 model due to screen glazing and scratches, I put a plastic skin on the new cameras screen and after 1 year I swapped the skin and the screen underneath was pristine.

Did the same for my Barakberry as the MF'er is indestructable with the Chinese made thick rubber condom cover I got from a street vendor for $5. The surface has a series of slanting grooves that give it a grippy feel so it does not want to eject from your hand.

On my Netbook I don't bother but I do use a screen friendly spray cleaner once a week.
