Why would you need an AM/FM tuner anymore....

I installed the iheartradio app onto my iphone, and it streams all of the radio stations that are in my area... (Well, at least the ones that play stuff worth listening to!)

This is going to make my next round of modifications better! I can add shaving my radio antenna to the list of things when I get the bodywork done!

I have not turned my radio on for years. I have one of those FM transmitter things for my car. I transfer MP3's to my thumb drive and listen to them in the car. I can fit about 130 songs on my 1GB stick. More if I choose lower bit rate. I listen to exactly what I want to hear and not what someone else thinks I want to hear.

Die Hard?

Some things never die.

My old Fisher 220T (circa 1967) is in the garage with the old box speakers, one on each side. I blast em when I wash the car or Harley on Sat mornings. Still blows your ears off. :D:D
Bought shipboard thru Navy Exchange. 2 months pay iirc. ;)

My visor BT device syncs to the headunit via an unused FM frequency.

Local road condition broadcasts are on AM in many locations.

Discovering new stations in other towns while travelling is like a box of chocolates . . .

I end up getting tired of the songs I most liked (past tense) if I play only my existing catalog. It's hard to find good music on the radio, it's true - B-Town has KPFA, the original listener supported radio station and they sometimes have some pretty interesting music - music I hadn't heard before.

I mostly listen to NPR on the car radio anyway. Why would I run down my phone batteries listening to the radio when I have an ELECTRICITY GENERATOR built into my auto?

I have not listened to terrestrial radio in about 7 or 8 years. I started listening to Sirius but I dumped them after the merger. Now I stream Pandora through my iPhone to the car radio. When I need a change of pace I listen to an internet station that I am fond of.

I have a nice FM radio in my shop. Great background noise, especially during baseball season.

Other than listening to those communists on NPR, I can't imaging using a radio for music.

MTI 02-01-2011 03:52 PM

Oh noes, Tom & Ray are commies?

DC's version of KPFA is WPFW. I guess that "PF" in the call letters must mean something. WPFW has a wide variety of interesting music and plenty of left-wing political talk. Amy Goodman's "Democracy Now!" show is often pretty good. I send them a few bucks every year.

I've been streaming DI.fm through my iphone or straight from a 32GB USB drive. I don't even have the antenna hooked up in my car. The only radio I really listen to is NPR and it comes in without an antenna

okyoureabeast 02-01-2011 04:21 PM

I actually use the radio from time to time mostly for NPR.

However nothing beats Pandora, Nobex Radio Companion, and my own mp3 collection

Most of the satellite radio systems, FM transmitters, etc... sound like crap -- not that most FM radio stations, with all their compression and whatnot, are exactly high fidelity. NPR sounds good most of the time.

I find myself listening to NPR news or AM talk (WGN) most of the time. During baseball season, it's all WGN for Cubs coverage (though it's going to be tough now that Ronnie's gone).

MTI 02-01-2011 04:53 PM

Speaking of baseball, I do use the radio during EPSN Sunday Night Baseball to get away from Joe and Jon's blather.

Honus 02-01-2011 05:00 PM

It's ridiculous how the TV baseball commentators blather on.
