Any Camcorder recomendations ?
Hi folks.
I'm off work today ( Snow day.) and dreaming of warmer days. So, being as this sites members are a well of information, I would like to pose a question, but first my reasons...................... I am increasingly having to deal with poor drivers on the highways and their inattention to their driving......a phenomenon you all have experienced no doubt. Therefore....I am looking at Camcorders or similar devises to mount on the bike and the van. It should be able to record for about 30 minutes...my normal trip average and be transferable to my pc. I am not going through a ''he said, she said'' again, so I am recording all driving errors including my own. Don't get me wrong, I'm not becoming paranoid, just equipped for misadventure. tia. regards dk ( The invisible motorcyclist.! ) |

There are commercial "dash cam" systems available. Some insurance companies offer discounts if you have one, especially if you have young drivers.

careful what you wish for. picture this: I am cruising along at just below the posted speed linit all by my lonesome in the fast lane. over to the side the exit ramp is backed up because of a wreck. noone is in the middle lane, some guys are in the right lane trying to squeeze into the exit lane. suddenly out of the blue someone get tired of waiting at the exit and guns it 90 degrees across 3 lanes and I hit them. guess whos fault it was?

I like the idea of car cams for liability reasons -- to prove an indident was not my fault should the other person lie.
Also, to record traffic stops. Just in case.

On the Best Buy site a lot of people like the Kodak version because they are submersible and can tolerate rain. How safe would you say a Flip would be in the rain?

mine has been blasted with several hundred degree steam (wanted a train passing shot) had a blow down valve opened on it (direct boiler blow off) and it still is chugging away, also left it accidentally in front of the Fire box while stoking the fire and it melted a little, but not bad. if your worried they sell water proof boxes for them that are un intrusive I've used the kodak one with success though. They are incredibly light weight compared to some. The Kodak has more recording features, but I dont know if the memory is expandable on it, I know it's not on the flip as of yet.
