Can't say that I have a #1 but Shirley Temple is pretty amazing:

Yoko Kanno is a prolific Japanese composer whom I also find fascinating. She writes in a style that mimmicks a variety of western themes: Jazz, rock, electronica, etc...

Jentay for selling me my first Mercedes Diesel and for showing me that basic car repair can be done by anyone!

Besides, she was pretty good looking.

I know you said no family members, but I'd still have to go with my late MIL who showed tremendous courage and strength as she fought her losing battle with breast cancer. While the doctors were cautiously optimistic with some new treatments, I think she knew just how bad the evil inside her was and made the most of every visit and trip. Usually to the point of exhaustion. As aggressive as her form was, rest may have prolonged her time with us but probably only minimally and at the expense of "living" while she still could.
