Who knows about this G-Wagen...

Found this ad on Craigslist:

http://macon.craigslist.org/cto/2205251638.html

Can't figure if it's gas or diesel... it's probably gas... Looks great for '83 - it's probably tractor like, eh?

It's gas. E=Gas D=diesel. Price is very low for a G. But they are prone to rust and it does say it has rust. I'd get a close look at the rust before buying.

Yeah..... saw the 'rust' mentioned... looks like a really nice wagen though... diesel conversion possible? How likely would it be to find a diesel engine donor for it in the future?

G's came from the factory with OM616, OM617, and OM602 engines, newer ones with OM603s and OM606s.

Hard to tell anything from the pics but I have heard good things about that 2.3 liter engine.

I agree that the price is pretty low for a G so look at it very carefully. Bring an expert if you can find one.

Beyond that it already has a winch mounted and it looks decent even if the pictures are terrible. Ask the seller to send you higher res versions before you go to look at it.

That's a hell of deal for a G wagon; with the M102, you won't go very fast but at least the engine will last forever. Solid? Very. Reliable engine? Very. Reliable tranny? Very. Cheap to maintain? More than your average 25-yr-old Mercedes due to pricey G-specific parts, but we all here are used to paying $1500-$2000 a year anyways to keep our old MBs running.

One owner of a SWB 230GE claims low 20s.

A LWB like that one probably won't see more then 16 or 17.
