Get a Ducati 996, if your going to die do it right!

Put a race fly wheel and clutch on it, along with the track exhaust. So if you sneeze and blip the throttle you will be doing 120.

DO NOT go down to the Japanese bike dealers if you have 'bike fever.' You will be leaving with one. The factory-sponsored montly payments are so dirt cheap - it would be hard to not leave with one.

I love the big cc ones. I can't hang around the Japanese bike shops, or I own one. Speed 'n quickness is a drug to me.

Call your insurance agent to determine the premium of any potential bike before you execute a sales agreement. A few years ago, I was looking at a Kawasaki ZRX1200R and the policy amount was pretty hefty.

I too have been thinking about a bike for commuting to and from school. But I like being a live. Drivers/tourist here just suck

This is what countless new Harley-Davidson buyers tell and have told their wives:

"Honey, I'm down at the Harley shop, and this new bike will get 45 to 52 mpg. I think it'll save us a lot of money if you let me buy it."

I've put some research into this myself. After scouring lots of motorcycling web sites, I keep reading from different people in different places that the best way to start is to buy a 250 (new or used-they're pretty inexpensive either way), use it to learn for the first few months, then buy something bigger after you have a better idea of what kind of rider you are and what you really want in a bike. Bonus-you can usually turn around and sell the 250 beginner bike for about as much as you paid for it.

That much being said, does anybody have a Honda Rebel near Reno that they're looking to get rid of

Don't spend that kind of money when you can get an older BMW airhead for much less. It'll last forever with proper care and the abundance of personality will more than compensate for the lack of performance. You can do all the work yourself and if you take decent care of it you will be able to sell it for the same price you paid-no matter how long (or short) you keep it.
