A neighbor f ours (since passed away due to causes unrelated to drugs) had a back injury. When we went to clean out her house, we discovered a lot of drugs. A form of Oxy, Ketamine and Fentinal patches. When I say a lot I mean about 10 of those old paper grocery bags, may be more. Most of it was expired by a year or two. Not sure how she got it all (we never asked) but I would imagine if that stuff were to reach the street, he value would be quite high.

We bagged it up and called the local cops to dispose of it. I wish I had a camera to take a picture of the expression on his face. I guess he does not run across that to much.

You probably had many $k worth of drugs if disposed of on the black market.
I would have got a fire going in the back yard & burned the lot. Alt flush the lot.
My guess is that she was over prescribed, she only took what she needed, not what was supplied.
Just as well you found them, if some low life felon had broken in & found them, think of the extra misery that would have made it to the streets.

About 6, 7 times in the last 10 or so years, I've been given a prescription for Vicodin after a major dental procedure or some injury. I've only filled them once or twice, I don't like that weird chemical high. I'd rather save the money and be a tough guy.

Perhaps there's a difference but wiki describes Vicodin, Oxy, and Percocet with the same words:

Vicodin is a tablet containing a combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone.

Dad was hooked on Vicodin before he moved up here to the farm. Local Dr's wouldn't write candy store scripts like they would in Galveston and he had to go into pain management. Since he usually washed a couple of Vicodin down with a 16oz Keystone Light, getting him off the stuff definitely improved his quality of life and the quality of life for everyone that was around him too.

To the end, he adamantly denied ever being addicted to the stuff but when I cleaned his house after he passed, I must have disposed of 400-500 tabs of Vicodin that were in scripts made out to either him or my stepmother.

As far as Tramadol goes, it would be way too easy to get hooked on Tramadol. I have some prescribed to me for metatarsalgia and when I've taken it, it's like wearing your favorite flannel pyjamas...everything is soft-edged but you still seem to be alert. It is a weird high.

FWIW, Tramadol isn't the same as Vicodin.

Addiction is too narrowly defined in this society. After the tobacco lawsuits they should have gone after the food and alcohol industries also. The same chemicals that you eat in your food would require a prescription if you bought them as a powder, liquid or pill. Police and emergency services answer more calls for Pharma drugs than street drugs. The profits to the sellers are second only to the costs to society. The lobbyists share the loot and round and round we go.

BTW, pretty much all of the pharmaceuticals that were poppy based are now synthetic.
