I wonder if is front drive only?

If it was built by the factory it probably has all wheel drive, if not all bets are off!

Ummmm, no. That is just stupidly under thought and over engineered. I mean, the "coolness" factor is there but what do you do when the Unimog is in soft ground (which is after all what they are designed for) and you can't use the hydraulics? A tilt bed trailer and an electric winch makes more sense.

Gotta give this one a "fail".

t really see any cool places to use a mogg in CT when I drove thru. move to southwest. Mudd sucks.

Nah I think I would be pretty happy with a Unimog.

I was just thinking someone had a lot of time on their hands and wanted to get all there mb buddies to say Wow! (Nothing evil about that.)

We had pictures of a similar system on a 508d on here a few years ago. We were wondering if that thing was rear wheel drive also.

The guy I bought my Landcruiser off a few years ago was an electrician who had built a satellite uplink communications system on a Unimog a couple of years ago. It's designed for providing communications for a hospital or city during a hurricane. The thing sits in the basement of a hospital in NH and will only come out during his yearly maintenance trips and if a hurricane hits on the east coast. Twenty years from now, someone should get a hell of a deal on a low mileage Unimog. It can be driven either as an automatic or a standard. If automatic, the clutch pedal swings up out of the way. The steering wheel can also be moved from left to right. The electronics are all in a pod which gets winched up onto the frame. With the electronics he told me it was worth upwards of a million dollars.

Kerry, what year was this Mog? Last I saw only the newer U500s have the ability to switch the steering from left to right.

It's a couple of years old and according to the electrician was one of the only ones in the US when it was bought. I'm pretty sure he said the truck cost $275k. He said he had to take a course at Mercedes in order to learn how to operate the truck.

A friend of mine north of here in white county has an unimog which can do many different things on his farm, like dig trenches and lay drain tile, backhoe loader bucket, etc. I think he paid 129K for it about fifteen years ago....not sure if bought used or new.

A few years back I was hot for a Uni for a few months haunting all the places where they show up for sale looking for one ragged enough I could afford to buy it and put my snow plow on it.

I finally decided that the climb up and down each time might get pretty old with my bad knee.

And I could find nothing for the kind of money I was thinking about.

They are as much tractor as truck so unless you have real need for their special skills you probably will not enjoy one all that much.
